The Alamance Partnership for Children is a non-profit organization serving children and families in Alamance County. The Partnership administers Smart Start and NC Pre-Kindergarten funds, an early childhood initiative designed to ensure that young children enter school healthy and ready to succeed.

The Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute (FPG) was founded in 1966 by a small group of scientists who had a vision—to conduct research that would make a difference in children's lives, support families, and inform public policy. Since its inception FPG has recognized that every child deserves a safe, healthy, and stimulating childhood; and our work has been dedicated to making this experience a reality for all children. For 48 years, FPG research, evaluation, technical assistance, outreach and service have shaped how the nation cares for and educates young children.

Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families through agencies in their local community. Head Start and Early Head Start programs support the comprehensive development of children from birth to age 5, in centers, child care partner locations, and in their own homes. Head Start services include early learning, health, and family well-being.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. We advance a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.

The mission of NC Child is to advance public policies that improve the lives of North Carolina’s children. We work statewide to ensure all children are healthy, safe, well-educated, and economically secure by engaging communities, and informing and influencing decision-makers.

The North Carolina Education Directory is prepared and distributed annually by the Department of Public Instruction’s Division of Communication and Information Services as a service to educators and others interested in public education. The directory provides information on the State Board of Education, the Department of Public Instruction, educational associations and commissions, and individual school systems and charter schools.

Experiences during early childhood literally shape the structure of the brain. Because today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders, parents and workers, everyone has a stake in making sure that all children have the experiences they need to thrive. Smart Start brings together all the people involved in a young child’s life—families, teachers, doctors, caregivers, social workers, and many others—to ensure every child has all they need for healthy growth and development.
