Google is a great place to find articles, websites, and books to support your academic research, but a simple search is not always the best method for finding the information you need. To use Google effectively for academic research, you should understand how to best tailor your search for your needs.
A basic Google search can bring up millions of results. Sorting through everything to find relevant information would be time consuming and tedious. Use Google Advanced Search to limit your results by site or domain, language, date published, exact phrase, or file type.
Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Google Scholar helps you find relevant work across the world of scholarly research.
Information found online should always be evaluated before including it in your research. Put the information through the CRAAP test to see if it is appropriate to use for your assignment. Developed by the Meriam Library at California State Library, Chico, it will help you determine whether a source should be used.
Currency: the timeliness of the information
Relevance: the importance of the information for your needs

Purpose: the reason the information exists
